Having just engaged in yet another spectacular failure to communicate over on Adam's blog (for which I take my fair share of blame), I stumbled across (via a comment on Maggi's blog) this post from hopeful amphibian (now blogrolled under Cool Anglicans) about this very issue of engaging those we disagree with in meaningful discussion about deeply held beliefs.
For me I guess it's not too bad because my entire career identity isn't wrapped up in the theological world (although it's obviously still really important.)
I guess one of the things that is surprising in a good way is how well the emergent conversation has held up over time and stayed, at times, brutally honest without falling prey to the usual pitfalls.
(And Mike, Brian and Bill, if you find your way over here, I appreciate your forbearance. Maybe we can pick it up again some other time.)
