More Travels

The last couple of weeks have been quite eventful. I attended a workshop almost two weeks ago on Non-CO2 Effects and Metrics Workshop and Roadmap at the Royal Society in London. Very fancy. The walk from the tube station to the Royal Society runs through Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street, Pall Mall - basically all of the London Monopoly board streets.

Then I spent a weekend with my family, with a stop overnight along the way with my youngest sister-in-law and a brief visit to my charming young nieces.

I've typically taken my parents out for Sunday dinner whenever I'm there on a Sunday, and this time was no different. However, our favourite restaurant is at the seaside in South Shields, and this past Sunday just happened to be the Great North Run - a half Marathon that starts in Gateshead (south side of the River Tyne) and goes all the way to... South Shields. I think there were about 50,000 runners this, it's 28th year, and somewhere this year was the 1,000,000th runner. So you can imagine that a quiet little pub in South Shields was not going to be the place to go. Instead we opted for Seaburn, just five miles down the coast, still a part of Sunderland. Here's a picture of my parents walking down the prom at Seaburn after dinner (lunch to most of the rest of the world). They're the white-haired couple in the middle...

This week I've spent most of my time getting set up here at Cambridge with my University Card and getting settled into the Engineering Department. Finally, yesterday I attended a workshop on the benefits and costs of aviation. Again, more fascinating stuff. I promise to post more regularly from here on.
