Tonight I went to a 70th birthday party. The honoree was Bob Moore (the Rev Bob Moore, no less, husband of Bishop Nedi Rivera.)
The party was at Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners baseball team. Bob is a tour guide there, a job he loves dearly, and which gives him a chance to interact with the public on a daily basis. we had very nice catered ballpark food in one of the suites at the park. Bob also gave us a tour, including some of the ritziest areas of the park, including the owners box. We also got to see the press box, where pride of place goes to the Seattle Time writers. There's Steve Kelley (Worst sportswriter. Ever. No, I mean it.) front and center, right alongside Larry Stone, best local baseball guy.
As Nedi is currently suffragan bishop of our diocese, and also a candidate for diocesan bishop (election May 12) there was some interesting Episcopal shop talk, especially when another candidate, Jeff Lee, showed up. I can only remark on the excellent quality of our two local candidates. It will be interesting to see what kind of impression the three out of town candidates make at the walkabouts in early May.
So - a great night, with a fun behind the scenes tour of the ballpark.
