It's Official: The Rapture is an Urban Legend
Courtesy of Pat Loughery over in Issaquah NORTH BEND! (what was I thinking?), I have been tipped off to the very latest Rapture analysis, over at urban legened debunkers snopes.com (the absolute best place to check suspected urban legends.)
Thanks no doubt to Tim LaHaye and the Left Behind series, (digression: what happened to the Right Behind? Did it get raptured? What do people do with only half a rear end?) there is a stubborn urban legend that airlines (in the US only I suppose) will not pair two Christian pilots together on a flight in case the rapture occurs and they are both whisked away.
But wait - the rapture says that believers will be summoned heavenward (which, as we all know is "up", not "down") but aren't pilots flying planes already there? Above the clouds? Besides, if the rapture really happens, who will care if a few planes crash - I mean, we'll have bigger fish to fry, right? Like, oh, say, battling the anti-Christ for seven years.
And another point, ace Snopes debunker Barbara Mikkelson asks about the wisdom of just worrying about pilots:
Actually, if the FAA or "the airlines" were concerned about guarding against the Rapture's snatching away key personnel, they should also fret over air traffic controllers, because in their hands lies the safety of all who are in the air at any given time. A Raptured flight crew would result in the downing of one plane; a Raptured air traffic control center would lead to the loss of just about everything that attempted to take off or land.
What about heart surgeons? Bit tricky losing your haert surgeon in the middle of a transplant. And what about a large proportion of the 8 billion cars driving along merrily suddenly becoming driverless?
Oh wait, that would look just like normal Seattle traffic. Never mind.

DUDE! North Bend, not Issaquah ;-) Worlds apart. Samaria vs. Jerusalem. BFE vs. Babylon... :-)

HA! I sure have to agree with gaunillo. This is my first visit to your blog Dave, and if you have that kind of wit in half of your posts, this thing ought to be a joy to read often. :)
Oh, and Pat, I've always been quite fond of BFE, thank you very much! Seriously, that's the name of my band.... ;)
Peace to all y'all
